In the framework of WiseGRID project, an open workshop was held on Kythnos island, on Friday 27/04. For once again, it turned out that the citizens’ active participation in local decision-making processes is more significant and necessary than ever.
With the presence of the Mayor, Mr. Stamatis Garderis and the Deputy Mayor and DAFNI Network’s President, Mr. George Iliou, a number of residents and visitors of Kythnos attended and actively participated in all processes.
Kostas Komninos, Director of DAFNI Network opened the event, describing the actions PPC Renewables SA has taken for the replacement of the existing wind turbine, and outlining the projects related to WiseGRID, that are going to be implemented in Kythnos in the coming years. Then, Valia Iliopoulou, Advisor of Innovative Energy Technologies of the AEGEA, introduced the electric mobility, its importance and benefits, answering to a number of questions in the discussion that followed regarding its applications.
The second part of the event included an interactive workshop where all the attendees participated. Separated in groups and within 8′, the participants brainstormed and presented the most important benefits and their concerns on the transition and use of electric vehicles and bicycles in Kythnos.
During the last part of the workshop the groups were given a map of the island and were asked to identify the locations, where charging stations for electric vehicles and bicycles could be installed. All the suggestions were depicted in a larger format, creating this way the possible future networks of the charging stations in Kythnos.
The event was organized by the Aegean Energy & Environment Agency with the support of DAFNI Network and the Municipality of Kythnos. Special thanks to Sara Tachelet and Vaiva Indilaite from REScoop, the project partner responsible for the communication and dissemination of WiseGRID
