Empowering Member States to Combat Energy Poverty
Energy Poverty Nexus is a transnational project that aims to empower EU Member States in addressing the pressing issue of energy poverty. The project contributes significantly to the alleviation of vulnerable households by strengthening national capacities, aligning policies with EU legislation, and establishing a sustainable framework for monitoring and mitigating energy poverty.
The core objective of Energy Poverty Nexus is to enhance efforts to combat energy poverty through a series of coordinated actions with a strong transnational character and a focus on long-term sustainability.
To achieve its goals, the project is structured around four main intervention pillars:
- Establishment of Energy Poverty Observatories in seven pilot countries, with the aim of systematically collecting data, monitoring indicators, and facilitating collaboration among policymakers, experts, and key stakeholders at national and local levels.
- Development of National Energy Poverty Action Plans and tailored policy recommendations, designed to meet the specific needs of each participating country, supporting authorities in the design and implementation of targeted measures.
- Capacity building and knowledge transfer activities, including training seminars, workshops, and peer-to-peer learning platforms, aimed at strengthening the skills of policymakers and key stakeholders.
- Development of exploitation and replication mechanisms, ensuring that project outcomes are sustainable and integrated into national and European policies.
Project Objectives
Energy Poverty Nexus aims to reduce energy poverty by strengthening institutional capacity and shaping sustainable and socially just energy policies. The project seeks to:
- Reduce energy costs and improve living conditions for vulnerable households
- Promote sustainable energy investments and effective regulatory frameworks
- Establish a robust mechanism for monitoring energy poverty and supporting evidence-based policymaking at national and European levels
- Empower national and local authorities in designing and implementing targeted policies
