Renewable Energy Empowering European & Indian Communities
The project aims to develop and demonstrate novel tools to provide a complete solution for all stages of a Microgrid/Energy Island and Multi-Microgrid applications in EU and India. The tools include energy planning ranging from the design of Microgrids to the upgrade of existing installation to high renewably energy sources (RES) systems. The development of the ten ecotools is expected to enforce the stability of the local energy systems and exploit synergies with other sectors including electricity, heating, cooling, water, waste and transport taking into account sustainability targets. A specialized tool will be developed and demonstrated to support active involvement of citizens. Moreover, the project will develop dedicated converters, electric vehicles and resilient infrastructures.
DAFNI network will be the responsible for the communication and dissemination activities of RE-EMPOWERED. Additionally, DAFNI will be leading the local community engagement to promote the involvement of local stakeholders and foster the creation of energy communities.
Pilot islands
RE-EMPOWERED will demonstrate the developed ecotools and solutions in four demo sites with weak or non-existing grid:
- two in Europe: Bornholm island, Denmark and Kythnos island Greece
- two in India: Ghoramara island and Keonjhar village
Goals
- Increased energy efficiency, RES utilization and reliability.
- Fostering of sustainable and economic community development.
- Knowledge exchange and training between EU and India.
- Use case replicability across EU and India.
