ISLANDER

Accelerating the decarbonisation of islands’ energy systems

The ISLANDER project will demonstrate the implementation of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems as well as the development of a central energy management platform on the German island of Borkum. To maximise its impacts, the ISLANDER project aims to replicate its results to the widest possible adopters through a 3-wave replication strategy: First step replication in Followers in Croatia, Greece, and UK; Second step replication in the related archipelagos; and Third step replication in other EU islands.

DAFNI represents the follower Greek islands of Lefkada and Skopelos and the related archipelagos. The two islands re connected to the national Greek power transmission network.  Due to the constantly growing tourist demand and the significant cooling needs, both islands experience an increase in energy consumption in summer. The project team will support them in their path towards island decarbonisation and improved grid management.
