Citizens and students work together to produce green energy on islands

Call title: Development and implementation of policies or actions on the mitigation and adaptation to climate change
Project duration: May 2019 – August 2020
Budget: €49,676.80
Role: Project lead
Funding body: Green Fund

As part of the project, environmental education workshops will be organized on Aegean and Ionian islands in collaboration with the Municipalities participating in the DAFNI Network and with the active participation of citizens, teachers and students at the islands. The Smart Islands Education programme implemented by the DAFNI Network in collaboration with New Wrinkle and Agoni Grammi Gonimi in 2017 is a source of inspiration.

The training workshops will be organized by the DAPHNI Network with the scientific support of the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

The main objective is to inform and raise awareness among the public of climate change and the need to protect the natural environment. This will be made possible by means of experiential actions that aim to substantially empower island residents and include: the construction of small renewable energy (solar and wind) power plants, a solar oven and composter, a demonstration model for building energy performance and the integration of renewable energy sources (RES).
