IMPLEMENT

Improving Local Energy and climate policy through quality management and certification

The European project IMPLEMENT provides for the deployment of the European Energy Award (EEA) quality management and certification system in 30 pilot municipalities in Belgium, Croatia, Poland and Greece.

The deployment of EEA started in 1988 and is currently used in more than 1,500 European Municipalities, while the European Commission acknowledges EEA as an effective tool for the implementation of Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP) under the Covenant of Mayors.

Thanks to its structure and scope (energy management, water resources and waste, mobility and transport, internal communication between the Municipality’s services as well as with the Region etc), EEA is adapted to the needs of each Municipality, helping to decide on those measures proposed that will lead to the implementation of priority actions and projects.

Under IMPLEMENT, the Aegean Energy and Environment Agency will be the national coordinator for EEA in Greece and will provide training and support for the implementation of EEA in the working groups set up for this purpose in the Pilot Municipalities of Amorgos, Thira, Kos, Milos, Mykonos and Chios.

DAFNI participates as an associate partner in the project, with an aim to build on its expertise in designing and implementing SEAPs – it has produced 20 island SEAPs and 10 SEAPs on member islands under the Pact of Islands and the Covenant of Mayors respectively, thus contributing to the targeted implementation of EEA in the Pilot Municipalities and disseminating knowledge to other member Municipalities.
