Exploiting the power of social media and crowdsourcing techniques
MOTIVATE promotes a new way of developing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), based on the use of social media and crowdsourcing methods, enhancing participative planning and the cost-effective reception and management of mobility data in Mediterranean cities with strong seasonality. In particular, the project provides for pilot implementation in 5 cities: Ioannina, Rhodes, Larnaca, Almada and Siena and offers tools that allow:
- Municipalities to record actual mobility and adapt their services and strategic planning accordingly;
- residents and tourists to evaluate and jointly shape transport services together with local authorities and the stakeholders involved;
- the promotion of alternative, sustainable forms of mobility as a means of improving the quality of life and tourism services in Mediterranean cities.
The Aegean Energy and Environment Agency is in charge of the communication and dissemination of project activities, which is a matter of particular importance considering that MOTIVATE itself employs innovative tools to involve citizens in data collection.
The DAFNI Network participates as an associate partner with an aim to bring to its members and the islands with which DAFNI works together at a European level the MOTIVATE experience on finding innovative and cost-effective solutions to promote sustainable mobility in island regions.
